Another Baby Gift Set

This is another gift set that I made for a coworker who is expecting a girl.

It looks very similar to the first set I made because I used many of the same fabrics.  The item with the pink terry towel backing is a burp cloth that is about the size of a hand towel.  The item with the yellow flannel backing is a 40 by 40 inch receiving blanket.  The flower print is also flannel.
Both sets are pictured together below...
I think they were well received.

Bibs for Boys

I made a few bibs for my nephew who is almost 2 and drools quite a bit as he is teething.  We headed to Disney a few weeks ago and I thought these would be good for the trip.  They are made with quilting fabric on the front and absorbent bath towel on the back.  The tie is a 2.5 inch strip cut from yardage.

These bibs take a little longer to make than Velcro but they are great for older kids because they tie and can't be ripped off as easily as Velcro.  I am thinking that I need to come up with a tutorial to share.  I really enjoy making them.

Baby Gift Set

This is a baby gift set that I made for a coworker who is expecting a girl.  The burp cloth is about the size of a hand towel and has a hot pink towel backing.  The blanket is jumbo receiving blanket measuring in at 40 inches square.  The front and the back are both flannel.  The bibs are either cotton or flannel on the front and towel or fleece on the back.  The ties are 2.5 inches by the width of fabric and are made in the style of double fold bias tape.  It was a fun set to make and I think the recipient liked it.

Blanket and Bibs for Coworker

I have 3 coworkers expecting babies soon.  This gift is for a mom-to-be for her second child.  It is a jumbo flannel receiving blanket and bib set.  Football flannel on one side and red marbled flannel on the other.  The blanket is about 40 in by 40 in and the bibs are about 11 in by 11 in.  It is harder with the second child to know what to give, but I figure that blankets and bibs get a lot of use and maybe aren't the best in a hand-me-down state.  The mom-to-be seemed pleased with the gift.

Saturday Sewing

I made my niece 2 matching pillowcases today.  She loves anything with peace symbols and also loveslime green and purple together so the color choices were a no brainer.  I used this awesome tutorial from the Missouri Star Quilt Company.  I have made many of this and they are fun and easy.  I did French seams so I didn't have raw edges anywhere!

I also made a large receiving blanket for my son's teacher that just had a baby this week.  It is mint green on the back even though it looks white.  I will make a few bibs to add to the gift and send it on it's way this week.  Finishing these items means I also finished my to do list for today!
I took 2 pieces of flannel, put them right sides together and sewed around the perimeter.  I left a gap of about 4-5 inches for turning it right side out.  I turned it right side out, ironed it, and sewed around the perimeter again sewing the gap closed.  It doesn't get any easier that that!

This is a very large blanket.  It was 1 yard by the width of the fabric.

Baby Gifts - Quilt and Bibs

The year of the baby gift! We have at least 4 people that are having babies this year. I normally go to the store and purchase a baby gift, but I decided that it was time to bite the bullet and try to make something for our friends and family members that are expecting.

This was my first attempt at any kind of quilt. It is simply made with jelly roll strips and some brown fabric with a small print. I didn't want to go with the normal baby pastels, so this is what I came up with for the little guy. I have a walking foot but didn't know what I was doing so I ended up using a regular foot. As a result I ended up with quite a bit of puckering in the fabric. I still think it turned out cute, but I will definitely learn to use my walking foot before attempting to quilt again.
I also made 2 bibs out of the same strips. Instead of the brown cotton I used part of a new yellow towel for the back. It made the bibs super thick and absorbent. The other thing I did differently than most people is that I made binding and turned it into a tie. I much preferred tie bibs when my kids were litlle over velcro or snaps. It takes more time, but to me it is worth it. I learned a great deal from this project and it provided insight for my next baby gift adventure!
